Wonder what’s in store for Zimmerman in five years?  Ten years?  How about 20 years from now?  Zimmerman residents will have an opportunity to come together to meet new people as well as old friends, to share diverse perspectives, provide personal ideas and input, listen to other’s ideas, and begin to put their personal fingerprints on a vision for Zimmerman’s future at a Monday, Feb. 9, meeting at Zimmerman Middle/High School at 7 p.m.

With broad district-wide voter approval of the Nov. 4 ISD 728 bond and levy, two Zimmerman community schools will be improved and expanded: Zimmerman Middle/High School will get a long-awaited auditorium, as well as classroom additions and the elimination of temporary classrooms.  Voters also OK’d a 7,000 square-foot early education addition to Zimmerman Elementary.

Because of those upcoming school construction projects in Zimmerman, conversations involving leaders of ISD 728, elected members of the Zimmerman City Council, Livonia Township, and the Sherburne County Board, as well as several local citizens have been on-going.  The outcome of those discussions was that the school projects in Zimmerman present a timely opportunity to invite a larger discussion with Zimmerman and Livonia residents on additional ideas or goals for the future of Zimmerman.  The group hopes the Feb. 9 meeting will attract a broad variety of residents of all ages — business owners, parents, non-parents, clergy, retirees, service clubs and organizations, senior citizens and high school youth.  The meeting will include light snacks and beverages.  All ideas generated at the meeting will be reviewed by those in attendance, and near the end of the meeting, attendees will cast votes on their priority choices of ideas to further explore for possible implementation.

Pre-registration for the open public meeting is required to help planners manage the group’s size —register via email to Londa Chambers at londa.chambers@isd728.org or (763)241-3418.
