Coaching Information & Online Application

Prospective Coaches
If you are interested in becoming a Zimmerman Youth Baseball Coach - please fill out the Coaching Application above. Coaching applications for Travel are due December 31st.

Coach Selection Process 
All coach selections will be posted online when they become available. The Selection process is done by the League Director(s) and Organization President. Together, this panel reviews all coaching applications and determines the best candidate for the position.

Background Check
All coaches are required to complete a background check to protect our youth.  We use an online background check service and coaches will be emailed a background check link that must be completed and approved before practice / games can begin.  In addition, all coaches must complete concussion training and turn in a concussion certificate before assembling as a team.

Head Coaches - What to do After being choosen to coach a Zimmerman Youth Baseball Team?

Head Coaches:

1. Background Check (Via Trusted Coaches)
2. Concussion Training (Via Trusted Coaches)
3. Twins Coaching Clinic (Assistant Coaches are encourage to go but must pay their own way.)  Info below.

New Concussion Law

- Coaches remove athletes under 18 from sports events if they have symptoms of concussion.
- A health care provider would need to give them permission before they could suit up again.
- Mandates that coaches undergo periodic training about concussions.
- That parents have easy access to information regarding the risk.

Online Training

Free online course available to coaches and parents. Coaches are now required to have online training at least once every three years. A certificate can be printed to demonstrate that you have completed the course.

Majors/Minors/ZBall Coaches

Each season we are looking for coaches to help develop our young players. We will need a head coach and an assistant coach for each team. Let us know if you have another person in mind that you’d like to coach with.

Majors Coach

Coaching responsibilities would include:

  • continue to develop all baseball fundamentals for each player

  • teach players baseball strategy

  • know, understand, and follow all Majors rules as stated online

  • communicate practice and game information to parents

  • coach and model good sportsmanship

  • keep it fun!

Minors Coach

Coaching responsibilities would include:

  • help players develop their throwing, fielding, and batting fundamentals

  • teach players basic baseball strategy

  • rotate players evenly through different fielding positions

  • pitch to your team, typically taking a knee and tossing from a short distance

  • schedule parents to provide simple snacks/drinks after games (optional)

  • communicate information to parents

  • coach and model good sportsmanship

  • keep it fun!

Z-Ball Coach

If you can give high fives and point to 1st base you can coach Zball! Coaching responsibilities would include:

  • help players develop their throwing, hitting, fielding, and base running skills

  • schedule parents to provide simple snacks/drinks after games (optional)

  • communicate information to parents

  • coach and model good sportsmanship

  • keep it fun!

Every coach in our program becomes a “Trusted Coach” through the Trusted Coaches background check and short online training. Please consider helping out with this fun and rewarding experience!
